Eddie Iz Running - Thursday 6th & Friday 7th August

07 Aug 2009

On Thursday the weather was beautiful and the scenery in the Brecon Beacons was amazing.

But the terrain was really tough and very hilly. The tail end of the day was hard for Eddie, phone signals went down frequently so the support team had to keep a much closer visual on him than usual.  He found it really tough running up the steep hills heading toward Builth Wells, almost like running a roller coaster!

A group from the Builth Wells running club joined Eddie as the light was fading which gave him a huge lift. They ran the last mile of the marathon with him.  As it was Eddie’s 10th marathon, his team hooked up the pa system and turned up the music as Eddie and the runners came over the hill. They made a cake with candles and with the number 10 on it. Using the under wrap meant for his feet, they also made a finishing line for Eddie which he sprinted towards for a spectacular finish!

After finishing his 10th marathon, Eddie cycled into Builth Wells with the running team where lots of people had gathered around the ice cream van. Someone bought him a bottle of becks and he signed lots of t-shirts for the local kids. It was truly a great ending to a great day.

Eddie did a live link into GMTV this morning (Friday) which went well.

He managed to power it and actually caught the team out by arriving at the meeting point before them! They had expected to have enough time to go to the bakery but Eddie was just too fast today!

The weather seems to be staying nice but Eddie’s feet are causing him gip and the nail on his right foot little toe is just about to fall off.....

A lot of people keep saying this - heck, I keep saying this - but what you're doing is completely amazing, Eddie. You've inspired so many people. Not only to donate, but to get out there and run! We've started a running club over Twitter. What keeps us going is the thought of "If Eddie can do it for 30 miles a day with ________ (fill in appropriate hardship here), surely I can do one more mile?" The world is a much smaller place thanks to the internet, and you've got a huge team of cheerleaders helping get the word out. Don't give up, Eddie! You're doing *so* well! Even if we can't be there physically, our auras are all running there beside you!

I kiss your head, I kiss your nose I kiss your feet and all 10 toes! Just sending love and healing vibes! One more day and then you rest. At this point I don't think there is a word to precisely describe just what you've achieved and continue to achieve. Fantabuloslyawespirational will have to do for now. XO Cin

I adore your crew for celebrating your 10th marathon with cake, music, and a Big Finish! You soooo deserved it after such a brutal up-hill day .... (I could see the hills on the Google terrain maps and the runner bloggers were all talking about what a tough stretch you were in) Here's hoping there is an all downhill day on the other side too! BTW : I love the casually understated tone of this line: "After finishing his 10th marathon, Eddie cycled into Builth Wells" ... what an Energizer Bunny you turned out to be! (Hugs) PS- you look great on the bike ... did I hear someone mention Bi-athalon? (hint hint)

Iz Eddie okay? Very quiet on Twitter last couple of days. Very worried for the little nail on his right foot. Oouch

08 Aug 2009 - 18:40 BST

It's so hard to see him in so much pain but I can understand how he feels. I, too, am very much an "all or nothing" sort of person though I have no idea how he's managed to keep his chin up. I can't believe how worried I am about him! I've never even met him yet my heart just wants to break! Ok, enough blathering....GO EDDIE! I have complete faith in you that you can do it!

From across the pont in Austin, Texas.....just wanted to send some encouragement. I trained with my wife for a half-marathon and thought I'd croak half-way. I can't fathom 30 miles A DAY! But if anyone can do it, it'll be you :). Keep running Forrest!

I attempted to make a donation today. not sure if it went through, as I received an error mssg, even after getting the 'your donation is being processed' sort of mssg. So, may you earn lots and lots of money for this charity and may you enjoy good health after this run is finished (during, even)! Sending positive vibes and e-hugs, and air-hugs...which you don't have to stop to receive, thankfully for you. May you be strengthened.
