Eddie Iz Running - Saturday 8th to Monday 10th August

10 Aug 2009

Saturday was Eddie’s rest day because of the toe explosion on Friday! The team were in Montgomery and had a chilled out day just wandering about. Eddie got a new iPhone, in black, and some new running tops with the Sport Relief logo on! He ate dinner in the hotel restaurant which was very nice indeed.
On Sunday Eddie decided to try and do the marathon faster, to see if it was better to increase his speed and therefore reduce the time it has been taking him. He made very short check points and ran it in 6 hours which was very fast.
Eddie and the team are still testing out what the best strategy for the day’s structure should be and what works best for his body.  The options are to push the running and have more recovery time or to be slow paced. Eddie is just trying to listen to his body and try different methods. It is still an experiment in progress and there are no real templates out there to guide him on how to do this amazing challenge.  It is all very new ground for what he is doing and in all the changing terrain and conditions around the UK.
Eddie is still carrying his foot injury but got his toe looked at by Doctor Gary in the evening. He said it looked fine, is not infected or blistered but he has just gone through lots of layers skin. It’s going to take time for the new skin to grow back.

He finished up just north of Welshpool and the support team played him The Who’s ‘I Can See for Miles’ for the last stretch!
Today was Eddie’s 13th marathon! Unlucky for some....
He went through Oswestry, a lovely town.  There were lots of people who all got ice creams. The weather held well for him today with the odd shower and a bit overcast making it perfect running weather.
He had a late lunch of bacon, egg and chips at a cafe in Chirk.
Before reaching Chirk, Eddie fell over, he seemed to trip over his own feet! He also thought his toe was going to fall off today as his feet felt really wobbly.... but it turned out to be the Vaseline Jo had put on earlier!
There were 2 flag changes today as the route took him in and out of Wales and England.
He is heading for Wrexham at the moment and is expected to end up south of there.
The team think they’ll be playing Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born to Run’ for his arrival and need some suggestions of other good running songs...any ideas?

We've just been posting to a thread all about what songs remind us of this adventure. The thread is here: http://www.eddieizzard.com/you/forum/thread/view.php?Id=922973 Some great suggestions there. My personal recommendation (seems appropriate considering the monumental scale of this task): The Impossible Dream by The Republic Tigers (this is a new, techno-ish cover of the song) Also: Running on Sunshine - Jesus Jackson It's My Life - Bon Jovi One Way Or Another - Blondie Right Here, Right Now - Fatboy Slim We Will Rock You - Queen Viva la Vida - Coldplay (just 'cause it's fun)

p.s. Eddie - you're totally amazing. To persevere through all you're going through ... only word to describe it is the oft-used "awesome." I've nothing to add that hasn't already been said hundreds of time before. So I'll finish with: THANK YOU.

"Takin' it to the Streets" or " It Keeps You Runnin" by The Doobie Brothers. The Eucerin folks are in touch with Eddie folks as we type. They will get some Eucerin Aquaphor ointment to him which is way better than Vaseline and a must for many marathoners and triathletes. Go Eddie...go! It's a mental game as much as a physical one and I know you have the mental game down. Run Eddie! Run!

Maybe Eddie could do a triathlon (minus the swimming)? Run until his feet hurt too much, then bike some, then run again.

10 Aug 2009 - 22:50 BST

Tom Petty's "Runnin' Down A Dream"

I truly cannot believe Eddie is doing this. It's tremendously generous and amazing and wonderful... and bloody insane at the same time. But music might help...? A few suggestions from my Zune playlist: -Shake Your Rump - Beastie Boys -Here Comes The Sun - The Beatles (best if you're really close to finishing for the day, I'd suppose) -Lovely Day - Bill Withers -Satan is My Motor - Cake (because it's funny and appropriate) -London Calling - The Clash (where appropriate- but really, nearly any Clash tune will work just about anytime :) -Weather With You - Crowded House -Keep On Pushing - Curtis Mayfield -Shine - David Gray -Pump it Up - Elvis Costello -Crazy - Gnarls Barkley (um, because it's largely appropriate) -Wish You Were Here - Incubus -I've Been Everywhere - Johnny Cash -Stronger - Kanye West -Running Battle - Kasabian -Running Up That Hill - Kate Bush (or Placebo- depending on your tastes) -Be Somebody - Kings of Leon -Say Hey - Michael Franti & Spearhead -Invincible - Muse -Alloway Grove - Paolo Nutini -One Step Ahead - Split Enz -Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder -Filmstar - Suede -Beautiful Day/ Walk On/ Window In The Skies/ Stand Up Comedy - U2 -Run Run Run - Velvet Underground -Vienna - Ultravox -Bright Side of the Road - Van Morrison -The Great Escape - We Are Scientists Keep going! We're all so very proud of you! :)

We were lucky to be in the same Montgomery hotel as Eddie and his team last weekend. Lost in admiration for his tremendous effort, and what a nice guy. Deserves as much support as possible.
