Eddie Iz Running - Wednesday 12th to Friday 14th August
14 Aug 2009
On Wednesday Eddie started off on the A59 and headed towards Woodside Ferry Terminal. He got a boat across the Mersey with Colin to Liverpool’s pier head where he was greeted by a big crowd of kids, fans and media.
Darren, Drew and Jordan from a Sport Relief funded project came along to meet Eddie at the docks for a chat. They were from ‘Positive Futures North Liverpool’ and, along with team leader Dave, explained to Eddie about how Sport Relief money is making a difference in their lives for the better. PFNL use development workers to engage local young people and provide a variety of weekend and late evening sporting activities. Those young people can then work through conflict issues that are commonplace in North Liverpool.
He ran out through Liverpool, heading towards Tarleton. Two fantastic young cousins, Dillon and Warren, cycled with Eddie en route to Ormskirk. The team kitted them out in high visibility jackets and helmets for the journey. Sadly, they left Eddie in Ormskirk as they had to go home for dance class. They got a ride home in the support vehicle!
On Thursday, the van’s driver side window wouldn’t wind up properly when the team were in Garstang. While Eddie was talking to BBC Radio Five Live, a policeman called Paul came along. He had been following Eddie on Twitter. Luckily, he knew a garage down the road who were VW specialists. Ian, the mechanic, used to be the Head of Customer Services for VW and got the VW recovery man, Ian, to help out! He took the switch from his van and gave it to the team. So he ended up going home with the broken switch instead. Big thanks to the 2 Ian’s and Paul the policeman!
An army tank driver also ran with Eddie today. He ended up by Lancaster University for the evening.
Pete from Science in Sport, who provide all the energy bars and drinks, ran with Eddie for 8 miles. He said Eddie needed to eat more so for dinner he had 15 new potatoes with his chicken!
Today, Friday, Eddie had a bowl of bacon and a separate bowl of porridge for breakfast. He is trying porridge for the first time since childhood. It is not his breakfast of choice but he is trying to eat things to give him energy. He’s eating more nutritional gels as well.
The weather the last couple of days has been too hot so now the rain is back it’s been quite good.
Eddie has been running through Lancaster in new New Balance trainers today. People have been saying hi and beeping their horns which is great.
Eddie is now running through the little lanes South of Kendal.
