Eddie Iz Running - Saturday 15th to Tuesday 18th August
18 Aug 2009
On Saturday Eddie ran from the edge of Kendal up through to the Lake District. It was very rainy and required lots of running up into the hills. At one point it felt like the team were up in the clouds because it was so high and the mist came down. There was low visibility at the stop point by Lake Windermere. Eddie seemed to appear from nowhere, running out of the mist on the Kirkstone pass with a team of mountain rescue guys and their tracker dog who had joined him! They told him about a local pub which they all went to. Then the mist lifted while they were at the top part which was lovely.
As Eddie began his descent downhill to Ullswater, two ultra marathon guys ran with him and said he was doing very well.
He reached Ullswater and nearby there was an outward bound centre, in fact it was one that Eddie had stayed in as a child. So he went to visit it.
There was also a village hall nearby where a birthday party was taking place. People came out as they heard the music – U2’s ‘Elevation’ and ‘Walk This Way’ and invited Eddie to Edmund’s party! They bought Eddie a beer and stood chatting outside the village hall for a while. Eddie got everyone to sing happy birthday. Instead of his usual ice bath, Eddie waded into the lake just as he had done when a child at the outward bound centre. Except then, he had to jump in at 7am each morning!
Sunday was Eddie’s rest day. He decided he wanted to do an impromptu gig and so he did! His team broke their short notice record and took 8 hours from the first call to the venue to the start of the gig!
Theatre By The Lake in Keswick were fantastic and really turned it round incredibly quickly. The capacity was just under 400 people.
They went for a Thai meal after the gig at the Star of Siam in Keswick.
Eddie discovered he had been bitten but no-one is sure by what!
Today (Monday 17th) is Eddie’s 19th marathon! He started in Ullswater with a journalist from the Sunday Times running with him and went through Penrith up to North of Carlisle. He’s been running quickly today and is being welcomed at the end by Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Run.’
Eddie started an hour later today and the weather was miserable. He arrived in Gretna, another flag change, for Scotland this time! Eddie was given 2 huge Scottish flags by people passing by in their cars and the team are going to drape them over the seats of the van.
A lone bagpiper, Alan, was by the border sign ‘Welcome to Scotland’ when Eddie arrived. He was in full regalia with hat and kilt!
Eddie got an emergency pair of trainers in Dumfries from Knox Sports who were very lovely. His other trainers have worn away and he needs at least 2 pairs at any one time. He ran along the A75 today.
Eddie is celebrating marathon number 20 today and having hit his 3rd country out of 4!

Stayed at the West Lakes Hotel last night. My kids said that a BIG BLACK Ice Cream man called Eddie Izzard gave them free Ice Creams and the Wife swears that a SHORT & KNACKERED looking Eddie Izzard said good morning to her in the lobby, before shuffling off outside. I just thought it was the mushrooms! Just read what your doing...what a star..keep up the good work fella and best of luck. Away to sponsor page now.

With all the ups and downs of the last few weeks.... the hardships of bad weather and bad shoes, pain and blisters..... the one amazing constant has been Eddie's drive to survive... to get it done ....one - day - at - a - time! You never cease to amaze me Mr. Izzard.... you are a very rare breed indeed! Ubermensch! Mega (20) Marathon Man! Zowie

Eddie, you are an inspiration. Passed you a few times in Dumfries today (hope you get better weather soon!) and thought, as well as the shouts of encouragements and honks of the horn, we should leave a message to let you know how amazing, and nuts, we think you are. Keep it up mate, you're doing brilliantly. Marti & Finella.

I hope Eddie is saving up all of his worn out trainers to auction off when he is done? That would defo make him a whole load more spondolys!!

Apparently the reason us over this side of the pond cant view the clips on the BBC sight is something to do with copyright and us not having a licence over here. BUT if some of Eddie's UK fans were to post them on YOU TUBE then maybe us over here could get to see him that way??
