Eddie Iz Running - Thursday 20th August
20 Aug 2009
Towards the end of the day on Wednesday, Eddie had some running companions in people he’d met in a local car park. The women and children running with him began to drop off as the miles racked up until only one lady remained. She had run with him for about 8 miles in total. Jo had to trim down the little toe nail on Eddie’s left foot in case it got caught in his socks!
The team delayed Eddie’s start today as it was torrential rain, really heavy. The rain was relentless and coming at him sideways! But the weather eventually cleared up and the surrounding scenery really picked up – they are by the coast and views over the water are great. There have been lots of people out and about, especially in Gatehouse of Fleet, where they had put bunting out for Eddie as he ran past. A holiday park campsite in Auchenlarie had been told Eddie was coming this morning and so put up posters in their reception. Kids had made banners too. When Eddie arrived they gave him sandwiches and donated a generous cheque to Sport Relief. Today he’s running along the A75, heading towards Newton Stewart on his 22nd marathon, go Eddie!
Money raised will make a huge difference to people living really tough lives here in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries. So please sponsor Eddie here.

I saw Eddie and his team as they were approaching Newton Stewart in torrential rain. Take my hat off to you as weather has not been kind. Keep it up and good luck - Scotland is rooting for you. Hope you make loads of money..

I agree - I was lucky enough to see you today, and all credit to you, as the rain has been torrential! Your ambition is outstanding - Can you not get the BBC or others to give you more publicity to boost support as you run and help the sum being raised? Also, any chance you could arrange for a map on the site, as this would help get more buzz and local support out each day ahead? All the best!

I've always been a fan but what you're doing is truly awesome. I've donated the little I can afford out of sheer respect for what you're doing and have done so far. Keep going, you're running amazing!

Caught sight of you in the Bruce Hotel last night Eddie, you looked very tired so we left you alone! Congratulations on your phenomenal challenge. Maybe a bit more publicity would be a great idea? We didn't know you were coming! But we thoroughly enjoyed the ice creams and gave you a few quid for them. Keep it up! x

You don't expect to see Eddie Izzard by your wheelie bin as you return home from an orthodontist appointment . My son is a huge fan and was delighted to meet you when, accompanied by his sister he accosted you on the A75 yesterday. Events like this inspire young people and also add a wee twist to the day. Good luck, enjoy SW Scotland and thanks for the ice cream:)!!

It's not every day that Eddie Izzard runs past your house and stops for a chat. He passed the house on stilts about 11.15 and looked in good shape on his 22nd marathon. He's away for his police escort through the bends at Kirkcowan. Go Eddie!!!!

Eddie is amazing, I saw him as he was approaching Stranraer on th A77 with about a mile to go and even though he must have been desperate to keep going and finish he stopped to speak to everyone and let them take photos. I can't believe there has not been more publicity for such a fantastic guy doing such a fantastic thing for charity.

I have to say, I spared a few thoughts for Eddie on Thursday as it bucketed down on our daily trudge to nursery. If the rain along the A75 was anything like it was in Glasgow, you should get kudos for a mile, let alone a 22nd marathon!

This IS truly awesome--yes,and in the true meaning of the word. Courageous-also in original meaning of the word--linked to "corage" meaning heart--this is the action of a man with heart--big-hearted, generous, brave. Big-hearted metaphorically but also maybe literally--in addition to gorgeous legs, you must have the grooviest cardio-vascular system on the planet! Consider yourself sponsored!

I'm still missing episode three of BBC's diary. It's still not available outside the UK :( I really want to see! Isn't anybody able to post it on YouTube so that it becomes accesible? :) GO, EDDIE GO! Love from Denmark!

Eddie, Bloody fantastic, keep it going. I'm a member of Burgess Hill Runners and if you let us know whem you're going to arrive in Sussex we will turn out to cheer you home. Were also the club that hosts the local Sport Relief Mile. Would you please come and start or run or make people smile at our event on 21st March next year. What a crowd puller and money raise that would be. I'd gladly play the role of the canteen tray dryer if you'd play Lord Darth Vader. Mike Baker

To MichaelaH: Go to Cake or Death and at least there shall you find diaries 3 and 4. Great site to follow Eddies's run. http://www.auntiemomo.com/cakeordeath/sportrelief11.html As another non-UK citizen, I know the BBC restriction is the most annoying thing. GO EDDIE GO!
