Eddie Iz Running - Thursday 27th to Monday 31st August
01 Sep 2009
On Thursday Eddie had a day off but decided to do a question and answer session with the media in the Pleasance Courtyard and run up to the top of Arthur’s Seat, followed by a group of press photographers!
On Friday Eddie officially kicked off from Glasgow, heading to Stirling. Lots of runners came out and it was a late finish. Rick and Helen from Sport Relief spent the day with the team too! Eddie met some young people from a Sport Relief funded project called Ruchill Youth Project which supports young people affected by alcohol. Ruchill Youth Group has a special focus group that educates young people about the effects of alcohol on their physical and mental health as well as the anti-social behaviour it can often cause. The aim is to give young people the skills and confidence they need to avoid underage drinking and misusing alcohol as an adult.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Saturday 29th Eddie ran from Stirling to the outskirts of Edinburgh. He visited Stirling castle which was very nice, especially as the sun came out. Eddie got his hair cut in Edinburgh at the ‘Charlie Miller’ salon. Tim and Jason cut it late in the day especially for Eddie after his run. Thanks guys!
On Sunday 30th Eddie ran through Edinburgh on the last day of the Fringe festival. Denise Van Outen and Frank Skinner joined him for a bit which was great.
It was Sports Therapist Jo’s birthday - she turned 21 and got engaged! They all celebrated in Pizza Express! Eddie ran past the National Gallery pedestrianised bit, the street performer spot! He stopped to chat to some of the street performers then ran down the High Street, through festival goers and onto Princes Street.
On bank holiday Monday the weather was horrible. The end of the route was hilly and the light is going earlier now so the team have to factor that in every day. It was Eddie’s 30th marathon! The team cooked in their van for the first time. They used the hobs, got the table out and cooked new potatoes with steak and vegetables and Beef Lorne – very Scottish! Oh and they had champagne!
Eddie ran through Lauder and Thirlestane Castle. Some kids from a nearby nursery came out at the check point to cheer him on.
A passing gentleman turned out to be the owner of the castle! Everyone called him ‘The Captain,’ he was Gerald Maitland – Carew and took them all for a guided tour. Apparently the Queen was there a month ago planting a tree!
Eddie's really going all out so please sponsor him here!

I read this morning about what you're doing and haven't stopped thinking about it all day. The enormous challenge you've undertaken shows what we humans can do when we put our mind and body to it - hopefully you'll inspire many people to get out and change things for the better.

Well I'll be damned. My heartiest congrats. I felt so inspired I bought tickets for the NIA. I don't think Lin and I have seen you in the flesh as it were since the Victoria Halls in Bristol and 'le signe est dans l'arbre". Well done.

I can't believe it! 30 miiles a day??? Never! My daughter said maybe it was a mile a day, annd we all agreed that was probably more likely. But no! We'll look out for you in York if you're passing. Like others, have only just found out about it. Better late than never though, and sponsorship duly sorted. Courage mon vieux!

. . . . . such an amazing, self-sacrificing, humbling, courageous, giving, awesome, agonizing, heroic, generous, noble, punishing, triumphant gesture you are making. You truly have our utmost support. You are nearly there - keep going, you CAN do it, we know you can. Xxx

Hi Eddie What an amazing challenge - can't believe you are really running so far. How does a 40something body do it? Am sure mine couldn't... Still you always had very sound humanistic values so you were a good bet for Sports Relief. Was lovely to see you in Coventry last year - was it just curiosity? Am hoping to get to the NIA gig in November. Bev let me know about your blog so have just joined. Wow haven't you come a long way since Sheffield days!! x

I am so impressed and have renewed respect for you and your achievement. I am surprised however that there has been so little coverage & will of course spread the word. You have my total support and will happily sponsor your efforts. All the best. Orlene.

You looked fit to drop, and I salute you Eddie. What you're doing is unbelievable and an act of stupidity!! Good luck, and hang on in there....sponsorship on its way for something I wouldn't normally make an effort for. You've converted me!!! Gemma x

really enjoyed spending time running with you through edinburgh and for the day. What an adventure you have undertook. A gruelling one indeed. "Mind is everything: muscle - pieces of rubber. All that I am, I am because of my mind." - Paavo Nurmi. mark and mollie (the dog).
