Eddie IZ Running - Friday September 4th
04 Sep 2009
Finished early – before 6pm - yesterday which was excellent and all to plan. Eddie got more recovery time so the early start really paid off.
Last night Greg Whyte, Steve Cramm and Allison Curbishley met Eddie for dinner in the hotel which was great but the evening ended up quite late – 10.30pm!
Friday started earlier again. The weather is horrible as the temperature really dropped and made it quite nasty. Eddie went through Newcastle and over the Millennium Bridge. Greg ran with Eddie and Steve and Allison were on bikes and Steve’s daughter ran too. They stayed with Eddie for 10 miles, until he reached the Angel of the North and all stopped to have a look. They went to a little town called ‘Pity Me’ which was quite odd! Greg stayed with Eddie until Durham. Eddie’s wet and cold now which means when he stops he is even more freezing than when running. The rickshaw is power assisted and ran out of batteries because it’s been so hilly. So it’s entirely up to Ted to cycle with the 2 or 3 of the film crew plus equipment. But going downhill he is fine!
Eddie has completed 32 marathons and is on number 33 in 40 days today - please support him here!
You can watch the 6th clip on the BBC website here.

Sorry to hear the "pants" weather is making it so difficult... keep your chin up, have lots of warm soup to keep the chills at bay. These timely updates keep us from worrying to death and are much appreciated ... thanks sooooo much for your lion-hearted ongoing efforts one and all! Q: Which is further Trafalgar Square or the Sun? A: Trafalgar Square..... I can see the sun from here! :D (I know...bad joke especially on a rainy day... tee hee)

Well done Eddie! You're in the home stretch now! What's the route for tomorrow (Saturday)? Will you be visiting Teesside, or giving us a pass? Would love to come out and cheer you on! :)

Wow! Great job! I just outsmarted the Comic Releif website so that it was fooled into accepting my US dollars. Ha ha! Take that technology! I started running when you did (nowhere NEAR marathons!) and I feel amazing. Thanks for the inspiration.

Eddie - keep going - what an amazing thing you are doing. I am inspired to get off my fat arse and get back to the gym that I abandoned a couple of months ago due to credit crunching and school hols. I will also ease my purse from pocket crushed by fat arse and cough up a bit of cash. My auntie and I had the surreal moment of seeing you on the side of the road in birkenhead a few weeks ago, as we ferried my kids to Chester Zoo for a day out. We had no idea what you could possibly be doing there and it made us chuckle and scratch our heads all day! And now we know!!! Didn't think it would be something so awe inspiring! Well done you and thanks for all the laughs you have given me and my family over the years too!! xx

Saturday 12.20pm. Saw an Eddie Izzard lookalike running down North Road in Darlington carrying a small flag of St George. Was that confused as I drove past waved but forgot to beep my horn. Got back and checked only to find lookalike was the man himself. Rather you than me, especially in those shorts. Keep up the good work. Hope everyone who sees you donates.

Past you running on grange Road, Darlington and you gave me a wave so I had to sponsor your heroic running for charity. Hope the weather stays fair for you. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you at Newcastle Arena in October.

Saw Eddie just outside Newtown St Boswells on Monday in the pouring rain - he looked exhausted. Stopped and spoke - he was friendly but tired. Hope he is fully recovered by the gig in Glasgow in November! He is doing an amazing and selfless thing - monumental respect!!

We just saw Eddie at Great Smeaton on the A167. What a massive effort by that man! He shook all our hands and looked in good spirits. The locals in the pub looked bemused and were calling him 'iz his ed ard'! Then they went back to their pints! I'm doing a 10k race tomorrow but feel embarrassed it is so short having seen Eddie today! Keep going Eddie!

Are you going through the City of York Eddie, within the next 48 hours? I am hoping you will do as I have sponsored you and want to cheer you on and give you some encouragement. Keep up the good work! You are doing so well. Chin up and walk it instead if you want.

We passed you at Great Smeaton today on your way to Northallerton and pulled our car in to give you a big cheer. You looked a mixtured of exhausted but still energised! You took time to shake hands with us and we were amazed at the awesome challenge you had set yourself all in the name of charity. Many people would never even contemplate putting their body and mind through such a demanding, intense journey. When I do my regular 'three mile' runs I will be thinking of you doing your regular 'thirty mile' runs and thinking what a strong person you must be, you have my upmost respect. Most importantly I have sponsored you :) WELL DONE KEEP GOING!

Been following your draw-dropping series of marathons with admiration. Think I've found your soulmate. Richard Beardsall is 2/3 of the way into his epic 60-mile solo charity swim round the Isle of Wight. He set off from Ryde in the northeast at 10pm last night and 12 hours in is off the south coast of the island right now. Details, including links to charity info, here. http://ventnorblog.com/2009/09/05/richard-beardsall-will-attempt-solo-round-island-charity-swim-tonight/ Be great if you could help get the word out. Good luck wiith your run south.

Eddie, I have done as you suggested & sponsored you 1p for every mile that you plan to run. But, so far, I reckon you have only earned about £8.98 of it ... SO GET BLOOMIN' RUNNING!! Aaaah ... I am soooo only joking! Donation in full is already well secured. You can stop any time you like for me. You have already performed a major miracle. My admiration for you grows and grows with every step that you take. You are a true superhero (but still only human - so please take good care of yourself!) Big hug. xx

In case you missed it, Frank Skinner wrote of you in the Times: "He could walk nonchalantly through the valley of death because his eyes were fixed on the horizon. This epic run just seems like another manifestation of those parts of Eddie’s character — his fearlessness and focus on the master plan." A nice description, that I agree with. You nudge us all onto doing a little more, seeing a little farther ahead.

Absolutely awesome! You've heard it before (& every runner gets it every time one runs past a group of young scallywags), but "Keep Going!"

Ran for a mile with Eddie yesterday into Leeds. He's looking incredibly strong (albeit I'm sure he's more than a little tired!) and he is getting faster and faster. The crew said that originally he was doing 4 mph, he's got to be cracking on at 6 mph now, he's hopefully heading to a huge PB at the finish. My hubby ran with him for about 6 miles (despite running a marathon myself, I'm not fast, and I couldn't keep up!) and chatted to him, and it was great to meet him on his epic journey. I cannot stress to you all, especially non-runners, what an AMAZING feat of mind, body and spirit this is. Give your money NOW!

I live in Seattle and I just heard about Eddie's amazing run. I am just in awe. What dedication! One more reason (or 33 reasons?) to admire him -- not that we fans needed any more! I want to donate but the website doesn't seem set up for international donations. I'll keep looking for a way I can donate from here. In the meantime, GO EDDIE GO!!!

After hearing of your endeavour for the first time on Radio 1 this morning I have just one word AWESOME. As an ultra runner I know what it is like to run a long distance and then get up the next day and do it again & again..... but your challenge eclipses anything I have done so I have great respect. I see you will be finishing in my home town tonight and if you pop back on Sunday you can run our Marathon. Well done Eddie and as runners often get told "you are nearly there" although it may not feel like it !!!

Hi Eddie, despite knowing what you were doing we didn't really expect to spot you on Ripon ring road on Sunday. Made our day that you took the time to stop and chat and let us get a picture, we'll sign up in support as asked. Congratulations on a hell of an achievement and best of luck for the remainder, Ben & Kristy.

Heard you on the Chris Moyles show this morning, you sounded in fine fettle. Well done. I've just sponsored you, not as much as I'd like too as I'm unemployed but an effort like this deserves what ever I can afford. Regards running, try not to think about the finish, just think about the next step, it helps.

It was a privilege to see you in Mansfiled today. I drove across from Lincoln (i'd only nipped out to pick up Malaria tablets from the chemist) You did wave but then a minute later were lost in a cloud of smoke from a car 'on-fire' - i have no doubt that you will finish your quest in similar style :o) You truly are an exceptional and inspirational individual. Hi - I have Eddie twice in the last couple of hours in West Bridgeford, Notts and then on my return on the A60 near Gotham, I recognised him immediately although I was not expecting to see him and then I recalled his epic task. I think that what you are achieving is amazing and although you looked totally shattered you also looked incredibly strong. Its a hot day today so keep that fluid intake up and well done to you.
