Eddie IZ Running - Saturday 5th to Tuesday 8th September
10 Sep 2009
On Saturday September 5th Eddie went through Darlington. He was on the countdown as only had 10 maras to go! En route he visited the Head of Steam Darlington Railway and Museum and saw lots of steam trains, he loved it.
When the team checked out of the Vermount Hotel in Newcastle on Saturday morning, Steve the concierge made a great gesture towards Sport Relief. He said that for the 2 nights they had stayed there, he would donate all his tips.
Eddie finished running early, at 6pm, but was woken that night in Ripon at 4am by a fight outside in the square. It meant he didn’t get much sleep and Rob had to get all the equipment from their van just in case. So everyone was very tired the next day!
On Sunday a local farmer, Chris Brown, turned out to be a keen long distance runner and had also climbed Everest. Paul parked his ice cream van on Chris’ land and so he saw them all and decided to run with Eddie until lunchtime. The rickshaw axel broke and luckily Chris knew a local welder. Eddie went to his house and the welder left his Sunday lunch to go and fix Ted’s rickshaw.
Eddie stopped at The George in Wormald Green and the staff there were very lovely. Archie let them have a Sunday roast even though it was later than they would normally serve. They donated all their tips to Sport Relief. Eddie finished in Harrogate quite late and it had got dark. Luckily there were pavements for the end bit so it was ok for Eddie to run along. They all had pizza in the van on the way back. Pizza Hut in Harrogate were lovely and did it quickly. Eddie had ham, mushroom and pepperoni.
On Monday Eddie went through Harrogate, Leeds and Wakefield and finished at 6pm. Finally the sun had come out and everyone felt like summer had arrived. It definitely got warmer from Leeds.
On Tuesday they went through Barnsley and Eddie visited the The Alzhiemer’s Society, a project funded by Sport Relief.
Eddie arrived at a golf club to meet two couples, Colin and Eddie and their wives. He stayed to chat over a cup of tea outside. They rode the rickshaw round the car park! The Alzheimer’s Society works to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and those who care for them. The project offers family support workers as well as support groups, a 6 week course offering practical advice and regular group holidays and activities.
It ended up being a late finish, around 8pm.
Eddie is really going all out for his amazing challenge - please sponsor him here right now!

I am still absolutely amazed at how far you have run as you are coming near the end. Hope the ankle is holding up well under the stress. I have sponsored you again so that with the help of the anonymous donor we have tripled the money going to Sports Relief. Go Eddie Go!
