Hanging Around
Written & Directed by Damian Hirst.
Between 22nd February and 6th May 1996, The Hayward Gallery held an exhibition of film and art called Spellbound: Art & Film. The exhibition was envisaged as a multi-media celebration of the present and future of cinema and of 100 years of British cinema.
Filmmakers with an interest in fine art – Peter Greenaway, Terry Gilliam and Ridley Scott – were mixed with artists interested in film – Damian Hirst, Eduardo Paolozzi, Paula Rego, Boyd Webb, Fiona Banner and Steve McQueen – and left to their own devices.
Eddie appeared in Damian Hirst’s 20-minute film Hanging Around (originally titled Is Mr Death In? and an anagram of Hirst’s name) as a psychiatrist to main character, Marcus (Keith Allen), a walking disaster area, causing fatal accidents to all he comes into contact with. The soundtrack to the film was provided by PULP.
“… .the ending has a wistful beauty and Hirst, whose talent is exceptional, has done a professional job….” Daniel Farson, Sunday Express
