Eddie has been working hard on the "YES"campaign in Britain. I´ve been wondering: Is it about fairer count of the votes or is it about dipolarizing Britains political system? Or maybe both.

I hope it's Eddie's intention to depolarizing the British political system. A polarized political system belongs to a bygone era. It creates conflicts automatically, contradictions that are supported by traditions which are highly cherished in the distinct camps. There are divisions for oppositions sake, to create a odentitet. So unnecessary, so out of fashion. And ineffective! If you want to really do something in a society, one must have a system that works according to the prevailing conditions. The old two-party arising out of industrialism economic exploitation of people. It had its relevance then, when you have to lift the oppression of the working class who were enslaved by the owners of capital for the sake of profit. Now the situation is different. It is the era of globalization, and it is perfectly possible to have empathy for other people's views and discuss what works best in a community without being in two separate camps and hitting each other over the head. I believe that right and left blocs should be revoked. They are no longer necessary. but it is absolutely necessary for the whole world that the rich in the West releases his desire for his idiotic luxury consumption, and instead actively take part to distribute the planet's resources. / Love, x-hot

Hi X-hot I like your insightful answer. I take it that youre from GB, cause you sound like you have thougth this through. I agree with you, that two opposites in politics (and the word "pol-itic"s has not to do with two polarized opposites!!!) is an outdatet principle. I live in Denmark and I sometimes feel that the political debate dumbes down, as if to get the voter to act on some instinct motion, insted of geting in to the matter with the intent of creating a triving society. :) tumi

Appreciated the last two comments. As for the AV system though tuni, it simply gives you the chance to rank candidates in order of your preference, instead of being able to vote for only one. You don't have to rank them all, you can put numbers by as many or as few as you want. Remember in 2000 when Al Gore ran against W, and Ralph Nader also ran? Most of those who voted for Nader would probably have voted for Gore, had Nader not run. Under an AV system, they could have said "I want Nader as #1, but Gore as #2." That way, when Nader was determined to be in last place, the vote counters would have checked who those people's 2nd choice was, and given (probably) Gore their votes, so he might have won. The same thing happened in '92, when Ross Perot took votes from Daddy Bush, allowing Bill Clinton to win. And in last year's UK elections, those voting for the Liberal Democrat Clegg who came in last, their votes would have probably gone to Labour; but instead the Conservatives won with, I think, less than 40% of the voters actually choosing them. So the British ended up with a so-called coalition which ... well, that's another story, but suffice it to say it's a giant mess.

PS Has anybody figured out what the UFO over Eddie's pointer finger is? I like how the checkered background repeats the square YES! button. And how it looks like it's balanced on the bar in the background.
